John (Shaun) Moran Obituary

Copied to Clipboard

?John (Shaun) Moran of Brighton, formerly of Cloon Claregalway, County Galway, Ireland and Brookline, MA, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on March 28, 2024. He is the son of the late Thomas and Ellen (Duggan) Moran. Cherished husband of the late Mary (Connell) Moran. Devoted father of Bernadette Moran Lally and her husband Tom of Allston, Dianne Moran of Brighton, Shaun Moran and his wife Paula of Arlington, and State Representative Michael Moran and his wife Helena Padellaro of Brighton. Loving grandpa of Michael, Ryan, Kaley, Kyra, Emily, Erin, Eleanor, and Adelaide. Brother to Evelyn Duggan and Margaret Lenihan, and the late Thomas, Katie, and Bryan, all of County Galway. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. John worked at Harvard University for 39 years and was the recipient of many honors along the way. He embodied and perhaps inspired Robert Frost’s reminder to ‘be more Irish than Harvard.’ He worked six days a week and Sunday he spent with his family…cooking a big breakfast followed by dessert, Mass and a long car ride navigated by The Mrs. He loved his community and being among friends. Perhaps you were a member of his (nine-consecutive winning seasons) Oak Square Little League team, the “Rangers.” Win or lose, there was a station wagon tailgate ride to Friendly’s for ice cream. Or, maybe you were a member of the “St. Cols” Gaelic Football team ‘ Irish or American, all were welcome. Many of you sat in on a card game in his kitchen, stood by him at the polls or at a stand-out, or were served a drink by him or, those lucky few, shared one with him. Whether you knew him as Dad, Grandpa, The Bull, Moose, The Big Guy, Shaun or John, please know that you held a special place in his heart.
